How to Recruit Best IT Resources from India to Japan

The guest speaker for the day was Mr. U B Desai, Director, IIT-Hyderabad. He talked about IIT Hyderabad, what they are doing at IIT- Hyderabad, the Industry Collaborations and their recent work started on Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also talked about how strong collaboration of India with Japan is helping to create and work on new technologies for both countries. He is working with IIT Hyderabad from 2009, just a year after its establishment in 2008 and presented the fact that they had only 39 faculty in the year 2011-12 to having 185 faculty in the year 2017-18, which is a huge increase in the recent years. He also talked about the sponsored research projects and active collaboration they are dealing at IIT Hyderabad.

Mr. U B Desai thanked Japan during his speech for the active collaborations and R & D collaborations the IIT-Hyderabad is holding with top Japanese Universities and JETRO.

Mr. U B Desai highlighted the 5 key areas IIT Hyderabad are focusing on

i). Next Generation Communication Technology

ii). Sustainable Developments

iii). Manufacturing & Design

iv). Nano Science and Nano Technology

v). Energy & Environment

He also put special emphasis on the new development in the area of Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad.

JETRO, Tokyo

Mr. Desai also talked about the three major research projects they are working as a collaboration with Japanese Universities and JETRO. These three major projects are the following:

1. DISANET: Under this project, they are working on Information Network for Natural Disaster Mitigation and Recovery. The duration for this project is 5 years and the cost is 20 crore rupees~ US $ 4M.

2. M@SMART SATREPS PROJECT: Under this project, they are working on Smart cities for emerging countries based on sensing, networking and big data analysis. The cost for this project is 30 crore rupees~ US $ 4.6M and the team involved in this project are IIT Hyderabad, Nihon University and Nagoya Electrical.

3. INDIA JAPAN JOINT LAB: Under this project, they are working on Data Science based Farming support System for Sustainable crop production under Climatic change. The cost for this project is Rs. 5 crore~US $ 770k and the institutions involved in this project are IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, PITSAU Hyderabad from India and University of Tokyo from Japan.

At last, but not the least, Mr. Desai talked about several initiatives like Student Exchanges and Interactions (JST Sakura Science Program, Carriers of FRIENDSHIP Scholars), MOUs with Japanese universities and The Hybrid Human Resource that can actually strengthen the partnerships between India and Japan.
